2016 Celebration of Philanthropy Awards Dinner

Thank you, Marcia.  And thanks to each of you for being here tonight to celebrate the generosity of our donors. This is the sixteenth year for this celebration that has honored 699 Kentuckians who, since 1998, have decided to invest in the future by investing in our students. Since our beginning, private giving has totaled $190 million.  Over the same period, our endowment has grown from $12 million to nearly $52 million.

On behalf of the 16 colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, I would like to share how excited we are about the opportunities that KY-FAME provides both students and employers.  Through KY FAME, Toyota and our Bluegrass Community and Technical College began offering the Advanced Manufacturing Technician credential several years ago and have seen this apprentice-style or “work-and-learn” model gain national recognition for its innovative weekly schedule of two days in class and three days working in the plant.
